Fiber bed (candle filter) mist eliminators are used to remove fine particles from air streams.
Fine particles include submicron particles (ie, below 1 micron) and particles between 1 and 3 microns. All fiber bed mist eliminators are cylindrical, with layers of fiber or fiber/metal mesh mounted between two concentric cages, usually mounted on the tubesheets of the tower. Soluble solids can be effectively handled by dissolving them in a solvent. Insoluble solids can also be handled moderately, but too much insoluble solids can cause clogging of the fiber bed mist eliminator.
